New York presidential primary spans 9 costly days for a race that’s already decided – Syracuse.com

Yet New York is moving ahead with a primary election that will cost Onondaga County taxpayers between $250,000 and $350,000.

Most of that expense is to pay for 675 election inspectors to staff 126 polling sites across the county, said Dustin Czarny, an Onondaga County elections commissioner….

He is among those advocating for New York to re-examine when it holds presidential primaries.

Czarny said it would make more sense to move the date to Super Tuesday in early March – when races are more competitive – or consolidate the presidential primary with New York’s late June primary election for state and federal offices.
