No special election to replace Onondaga County Exec Joanie Mahoney this year – Syracuse.com

Dustin Czarny, an Onondaga County elections commissioner, said in order to hold a special election, an office must be vacated before Sept. 20.

“According to section 42 of the public officers law, the vacancy has to occur prior to Sept. 20 to be put on this year’s election,” Czarny said. “If it had occurred before the 20th then it would be this year.”
