“I think It would lead to more competitive races, and I’m always for that,” said Czarny.
This week’s Zoom with Czarny features Susan Lerner of Common Cause New York. We discuss the June 23rd primary throughout New York and her work with Fair Maps CNY.

“What we’re seeing has been playing out across the nation” said Dustin Czarny, Onondaga County’s Democratic elections commissioner. “At its base, despite the pandemic and no real presidential primary race, Democratic voters are going to the polls.”
“We’ve been very clear about expectations we don’t expect to have certified results until July 8 or 9 at least,” said Czarny.
“It’s starting to rival the 2016 presidential primary with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, which was a record for Onondaga County at the time and I think we’ll be challenging that,” added Czarny.
Ahead of Primary Day, New Yorkers had a chance to get their votes in early. NewsChannel 9’s Julia LeBlanc was at the Board of Elections in Onondaga County where she spoke with Onondaga County Democratic Elections Commissioner Dustin Czarny about whether or not voters took advantage of early voting.

“Because there are so many absentees and they look to dwarf Election Day and early voting totals at this point, we just won’t have a good sense of who actually won the race until the absentees are opened,” Czarny said.
Tonight I talk about Primary Day 2020. Go vote in NY 6am to 9pm.

“I have advised all candidates not to concede and not to declare victory on election night,” Czarny said. “We’ll have to let the process play out.”
